As mentioned on our "FIRE" Alarm Box Sticker Page, the use of reflective "Scotchlite" Stickers was first introduced on Gamewell Boxes in the mid-1940's. However, prior to that introduction and for sometime afterward, Gamewell marked their Boxes with another attention getting design, the diagonal "White Stripe".
First applied to Boxes with the introduction of the 1931 model, these White Stripes while not reflective were still unique enough, that Gamewell sought and acquired a patent from the U.S. Government Patent Office.
Although most cities when re-painting their Boxes included the White Stripe with a myriad of broad brush strokes of varying degrees of witdth or "stroke", the original White Stripe from the Gamewell factory was not painted on, it was what was know at the time, in the trade, as a "decalcomania", which was later shortened to "decal".
The original decal was screenprinted with a water soluable base and the design was then printed atop the base. Placing the decal in water and soaking for several minutes allowed the base to release from the liner paper and the entire decal would then be slid off the paper backing and applied to the Box. So long as the decal remained wet, it could be re-positioned as desired and once dry, permanently adhered to the Box.
Today, this method of producing emblems has pretty much been left to hobby models and the model makers themslves. "Peel and Stick" emblems with a ready to apply adhesive have replaced the old technology and we are proud to be the first manufacturer to offer the 1931 style White Stripe for Gamewell Box restoration.
There are few original White Stripe Boxes in existence today, but our dedication to painstaking research has culminated with the closest replication to authenticity imaginable. Our original OEM restoration design is complete with the words "WHITE STRIPE" and "REG. U.S. PAT. OFF." in Red located at the top of the sticker, dedication and attention to detail that has always been a hallmark of the FireStickers entire product line.
Additonally, painting and white tape requires intricate masking or cutting, often both. The decals we manufacture come pre-cut, printed to size and ready to install. Each set includes one sticker for the left or "key side" of the Box and one sticker for the right or "hinge side". This is important because the hinge side has a pre-set "cut" or indentation necessary for proper fit and appearance on the Box.
Accept NO substitute for your restoration! Genuine FireStickers brand "31 White Stripe" Stickers will last for years, are weatherproof and easy to install in just minutes!
